EMT Recertification
The following courses will enable the EMT certified students to obtain continuing education and to take the practical skills exam required by the County of Los Angeles EMS Agency and the State of California for renewal of the EMT certification. These courses are designed to refresh didactic knowledge and practical skills the EMT learned in their initial certification course. At present, the State of California EMS Agency requirements for certification renewal are: 24 hours of continuing education and successfully passing the State of California practical skills exam for EMT Recertification. These requirements change if your certification has lapsed (see FAQ page) or if you want to recertify your NREMT. The California Institute of EMT is an approved CE provider for the State of California. Provider # 19-0103. Objectives for each course of study are available upon request.

More information about each enrollment option:
The student may attend as many 7 hour lectures (Day classes 8am-3pm Night classes 4pm-11pm. Long Beach campus only.) as needed to satisfy the 24 hours (or more if your certification has lapsed (see FAQ page) or if you want to recertify your NREMT) of continuing education required. These classes are given as part of the CIEMT initial EMT certification course. There are 14 different (7 hour) lectures given throughout each month. The student must take a 25 question written exam for each CE class attended in order to complete the requirements for re-certification. The course of instructions fee is thirty dollars ($35.00) per seven hour block of course content. Students needing continuing education are not required by CIEMT to take a full twenty four (24) hours of CE with CIEMT. Students are required to attend the full seven (7) hours minimum at one time to receive seven (7) hours worth of CE. (These classes do not include the practical skill exam required by the County of Los Angeles EMS Agency and State of California for re-certification.) Continuation education for each 7 hour lecture is classified as instructor based CE.
If the EMT-Basic chooses this option it is highly recommended that the recertifying student combine the lecture classes needed with the 6 hour CE Practical Skills Review and Testing Class to obtain the required 24 hours of continuing education and practical skills exam.
