Q: Can a student be absent for class?
A: The short answer is no. This is a certification course and must be specific amount of hours. The information missed is vital to the course and must be received by the student. The long answer is, you are allowed to be absent for one non-mandatory class. This class must be made up with private tutoring at a rate of $35 an hour. Mandatory days are all skills days and all review days (six days in total).
Q: How do I get certified?
A: Once you successfully complete the program you must take the State Certification exam (National Registry Exam). After passing the exam you will take you NREMT card your completion certificate from the EMT course and your CPR card and make application at any local area EMS agency. Each county has and EMS agency, pick one.
Q: When can I take the NREMT exam?
A: Right away after your course is over!!! If you wait over two weeks to take the exam your chances of passing are greatly diminished. It's a computer based exam that you will take at a Pearson View testing center. There are 5 in the L.A. County area.
Q: What is the dress code?
A: Clothes would be good. The only dress code for class is no flip flops or short skirts on skills days. There is a dress code for your clinical ride along. The ambulance company you choose will dictate exactly what you will need to wear.
Q: Who with and when do we do our clinical ride along?
A: You will do your ride along with one of the ambulance companies CIEMT has a contract with. You must have it done by the end of you course. You along with the company you choose will set the time of your ride along.
Q: What do I need to do to renew my EMT certification? (Continuing Education)
A: Okay, here's how it works. In California you are not required to renew your NREMT card (If you want to you can, you will need three times as many hours which will increase the cost greatly). You must renew your state card that you made application for at your local county EMS agency. If you are not expired you will need 24hrs of CE and a skill validation exam. You may do that by coming to any 3 of our regular lecture class (6hrs each) and then attending our skill review and testing course that we give at the end of each month (times and dates are available under the CE link on the web site). If you are expired you can not work as an EMT but you can renew by doing the following:
Up to 6 months expired- 24hrs and a skills validation.
6mo-12mo expired- 24hrs+12 extra and the skills validation.
12mo-24mo expired- 24hrs+24hrs a skills validation and retake the NREMT
|
Q: What if I want to renew my NREMT
A: You will need to take a 24hr Refresher Course (We provide this course every other month at our Wilson campus in Hawthorne) and 48hrs of continuing education. That's 72 hours in total.
Q: How much will a renewal going to cost me?
A: Every lecture class is $25 to attend and the skills review and testing is $75. That would mean for a regular renewal it would cost you $150. If you need more hours just do the math (the Refresher Course is $160).
Q: What does it mean if a course is on call wait list?
A: It means per registration the course is full. To be put on the wait list you must call the school and leave your full name, phone number, and the course you are interested in. We start a wait list because 10 days prior to the start of the course payment must be made. If it is not, the student will be removed from registration and we will start calling down the wait list.
Q: What are my chances of getting into a course off the wait list?
A: We can usually get 8-12 students into the class off of the wait list into the class. It is first come, first serve. If you are called off of the wait list you must be ready to go on line and immediately register and pay for the course.
Q: How long is the wait list?
A: It not so much a matter of how long because it's first come first sever. If I can not get in touch with when I call to offer you a spot I will leave a message and move to the next prospective student. Who ever calls me back and is ready to go on line register and secure there spot with payment is in.
